Cows
are
the most common type of large domesticated ungulates. Due to the multiple benefits from cow, there are
varying beliefs about cattle in societies and religions. In some regions,
especially Nepal and most states of India, the slaughter of
cattle is prohibited and their meat may be taboo.
Cattle are
considered sacred in world religions; Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism,
and others. Religions in ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, ancient
Israel, ancient Rome, and ancient Germany held similar beliefs.
There are
many importance of Cow highlighted by different scared books of Hinduism like
Bhagwat Geeta, Rig Veda, Purans, etc.
In
Hinduism and Buddhism, Cow is considered as mother and worshipped and so in
other religions around the globe.

Cow milk is the
most compatible with human mothers milk then any other species in existence.
This is because the DNA of the cow was specifically constructeds to be
harmonious with mammalian human DNA. So it can be clearly understood that
cow DNA was designed so humans could benefit from cows products being milk,
cheese, butter, cream and yoghurt.

When we
offer ghee in fire as part of ritualistic sacrifices, it strengthens the ozone
layer and shields the earth from harmful radiations from Sun.

When we burn cow dung, it balances atmospheric temperature and kills
germs in the air. We can also reduce acid content in water by treating it
with cow dung.

Cow dung has antiseptic, anti radioactive and anti
thermal properties. When we coat the walls and clean the floors of house with
cow dung, it protects the dwellers. In
1984, gas leak in Bhopal killed more than 20,000 people. Those
living in houses with cow dung coated walls were not affected. Atomic
power centres in India and Russia even today use cow dung to shield radiation.

In Nepal, the cow is the
national animal. Cows give milk from which the people produce dahi
(yogurt), ghee, butter, etc. In Nepal, a Hindu-majority country,
slaughtering of cows and bulls is completely banned Cows are considered
like the Goddess Lakshmi (goddess of wealth and prosperity). The
Nepalese have a festival called Tihar (Diwali) during which, on one day called
Gaipuja, they perform prayers for cows.
According to a Lodi
News-Sentinel news story written in the 1960s, in then contemporary Nepal
an individual could serve three months in jail for killing a pedestrian, but
one year for injuring a cow, and life imprisonment for killing a cow.
Cows roam freely and are
sacred. Buffalo slaughtering was done in Nepal at specific Hindu events,
such as at the Gadhimai festival, last held in 2014. In 2015, Nepal's
temple trust on announced to cancel all future animal sacrifice at the country's
Gadhimai festival.
